CHARACTER INFO
❥ Name: The Knight (Occasionally called "Ghost" by Hornet)
❥ Canon: Hollow Knight
❥ Canon Point: "Dream No More" Ending
❥ Fandom OC Approval: N/A
❥ History: Basic game synopsis, Very brief Knight backstory, and General Vessel info (spoilers for each)
❥ CRAU?: N/A
❥ Personality:
The Knight is really meant to be just a blank, silent protagonist with no character (player insert). However there is a few things that could be gleaned from general gameplay, subtle animations, how other characters perceive them, and some headcanoning.
- Given the nature of vessels, the Knight is physically unable to speak. However since they've had to draw maps and write down enemies in the Hunter's Journal, it is theoretically possible for them to communicate in other ways if needed. Though it would take some time to adapt to newer technology. Most first person interactions would likely still be primarily nods and subtle gestures.
- Rather simple-minded for the most part, despite being able to live much more freely than their siblings (Didn't go through the same rigorous discipline as the Hollow Knight, and somehow managed to survive and escape from the Abyss). They don't have that many complex feelings or thoughts, likely because they had been only focused on just surviving up till now.
- It's somewhat implied that the Knight is pretty much a child (...though it's complicated) anyway. So new stuff is interesting!
- Likes quiet and relaxing places.
- Can go from docile to a killing machine on a dime, if they feel threatened. Rarely do they pick fights first, or kill bugs that haven't been infected. Also learns rather fast how to deal with newer opponents/enemies.
- Very curious. Can and will get into places they regret later.
- Stubbornly Persistent.White Palace PTSD intensifies
- Genuinely wants to help the noninfected bugs and cares about them. There is many examples of this, but a notable one is the infamous "Delicate Flower" sidequest that involves delivering a flower from one side of the world map to the other (without getting hit, no fast travel). While it's possible to just take the flower to its destination, it's also possible to give the flower to a few npcs instead. Except it also means having to redo the quest multiple times and having it take longer to finish. But by doing so those npcs have special dialogue and keep the flowers for the rest of the game.
- TL;DR: Polite Feral Battle Baby.
For Hugtopia Specifically: (And HK Spoilers)
- A lot of just general confusion, and possibly much more defensive than usual until they finally manage to calm down. By all rights they should probably no longer exist since their last memory was falling back into the void. (Are they trapped within a dream now??)
- Somewhat wary of humans, or anything not bug shaped for that matter. But if they don't show any obvious sign of threat, and don't look infected, then might presume they're safe.
- Not too fond of bright lights, but sunlight very specifically might make them feel uneasy. Until they get used to the sun just being the sun and not a primordial moth god hellbent on destroying them and enslaving the minds of everyone else.
- Really not sure how they feel about all the god worship, all things considered. (Hardly any of the Hollow Knight gods are really that great)
- Affection, especially physical affection, is something they're really not used to getting. But they are a very lonely bug so hugs might be exactly what they need.
❥ Abilities:
Wiki does a good job bullet listing all of them here and in more detail. I would probably miss a few anyway.
- Their main method of murdering for the most part is with their Nail (swords made by bugs, for bugs), so all the usual sword fighting techniques, training, etc is to be expected.
- Soul is basically the magic system and MP gauge of Hollow Knight and more or less is exactly what it looks like. While there is other ways to refill Soul, the most common way is striking enemies with the nail and taking Soul from them. For RP Purposes, this gimmick is certainly going to be an opt in or out thing depending on what people want. Also rather than being a literal life drain, it would just make other characters weaker for a time. Something they can easily recover back from later.
- Charms are a whole other can of worms when it comes to what the Knight can and can't do. Many of these are passive skills/traits, some of them aren't. Considering none will be coming with them initially I'm not going to list them all and save it for AC rewards.
- ...With the exception of Void Heart. It is a charm (or at least that's what the game classifies it as) that is permanently attached to them now. It doesn't really do anything for them here, but it has lore implications.
- The King's Brand, while also not an ability, is another permanent fixture. It's just a cool marking (I headcanon it's on one of their hands) that signifies them as the current Hallownest ruler.
- And finally the Dream Nail is an ethereal blade given to them that lets them enter inside of dreams, or more commonly, hear somebody's thoughts (or the remaining lingering thoughts of anywhere noteworthy). Another thing that will likely come with a list of opt-ins if/whenever they retrieve it back. That and they can set up teleports with it.
- Also ever since obtaining the Dream Nail, they have been able to see ghosts and other spectral things much more clearly too. ...Not 100% clear if this is just due to wielding the Dream Nail or they got two separate abilities at once.
❥ Extras:
Choosing Diacht for their god!
Items brought along: Nail (Pure Nail more specifically), Shade Cloak, and Monarch Wings.
I apologize in advance to whichever android wakes them up, they're going to be rather defensiveand pointy until they figure out what's going on.
